Monkey Balance — reading & writing aid
✓ Free shipping over $50
What it is
A monkey-shaped balance and little numbered monkeys: place a number on one side and the matching count of monkeys on the other until the scale sits perfectly level. When the two trays align, the child physically sees that an equation is correct. Math becomes a concrete, immediate experience rather than an abstract answer.
A favourite in our reading and writing section for making numbers meaningful.
Why we love it
Feedback is instant: it tips, so it's wrong; it balances, so it's right. This self-correcting visual feedback supports independence and reassures children who feel anxious about math. ADHD kids stay engaged through hands-on play, and dyscalculic profiles anchor the idea of equality without relying on abstract symbols.
- Counting: matching a number to a quantity
- Adding and comparing: seeking equality between two sides
- Self-correction: the scale confirms or denies on its own
- Fine motor skills: placing the monkeys carefully
Perfect at home, as a class station, or in special-education sessions with progressive challenge cards. Sturdy, colourful plastic, easy-to-grip monkeys, rounded corners and no risky small parts. Suggested from age 5.
